So Matthew decided on Thursday to get some rocks out of the woods to continue building our stone wall. As he was picking his way through the underbrush, he moved a fallen tree. Apparently, yellow jackets make their hives on the ground, under logs and don’t like it when you move those logs. At least we think it was a yellow jacket that got him. When the doctor asked him what stung him, he said, “I’m not sure- I kind of ran.” The photos above were taken 24-hours after the incident. It didn’t look this bad when I left for work Friday morning, but by the time I got home last night, I insisted that we go to urgent care. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him too much other then itchy, tight skin. The doctor prescribed him some steroids and told him not to life more than 5 pounds until the swelling went down. So, he’s home sick from work today since warehouse work is out of the question. That also means kitchen demo is out too, so not much new to report on that end. But since he’s home, we did enjoy a trip to the Farmer’s Market for locally grown tomatoes (they ought to be safe, right?) and lunch at MoJo’s burger joint down in Glenwood. I love the neighborhoods of downtown Raleigh and get a hankering to move there every time we’re down that way.

I did work on some crafty stuff this week. I’ve always loved playing around with old magazines and so I decided to pursue a little of that. I think it’s the combination of hunting for colors, cutting them into strips and then arranging them to make a little piece of art that I like so much. I decided to cover the backs of Scrabble pieces this time around. I may make them into pendants or bracelets or just frame them as a set in a shadow box. I haven’t decided yet. Matthew thinks we should just use them as fancy Scrabble pieces since I didn’t cover the letters up. I doubt that will happen.
